Imagine a place where you can...

  • Learn a new skill
  • Catch up with friend
  • Borrow a book
  • Work on your new business idea
  • Relax in a tranquil space

The City of Charles Sturt has commenced planning an exciting new Community Hub at West Lakes. The hub will bring together the existing West Lakes Library and Community Centre services under one roof, creating a vibrant, attractive and modern facility.

Our vision

To create a next-generation, integrated community place that is recognised as a centre of excellence for literacy, learning, innovation and discovery. A place where the community can meet, connect, share or just relax.

The existing Library and Community Centre buildings have serviced the community well for more than 20 years, however our new integrated hub offers many long-term benefits for the community, such as:

  • Co-locating library and community centre services under one roof.
  • Offering greater convenience for the community.
  • Flexible modern facilities featuring state-of-the-art technology and adaptable spaces.
  • Purpose designed to meet disability access needs.

Read the project Fact Sheet for more information.

Meeting community need

We are interested in designing spaces that meet community need whether it be community programs, library collections, digital needs, indoor and outdoor spaces. We are interested in designing to meet the needs of diverse groups in our community, big and small groups, and for use at different times of the day and night.

Early sharing of ideas

In 2018 the local community were invited to suggest ideas to help shape the design and function of the new Hub.

There were several ways to have your say including:

  • Completing a quick survey.
  • Attending the Your Space, Your Say Community Day, between 10am and 2pm, on Saturday 28 April 2018 at the existing West Lakes Library. The day provided opportunities to find out more information on the planned hub and share ideas with the design team. Everyone enjoyed family fun activities, coffee and sausage sizzle.
  • Share a special story or memory about West Lakes that may help inform the design.
  • Asking a question.

Your ideas are helping shape the design and function of the new Community Hub which will come back to the local community for further input once drafted.
