Community input into the design of our new West Lakes Facility

In 2018 we started the process of imagining our new West Lakes Community Centre and Library.

The vision was to bring together the existing West Lakes Library and Community Centre under one roof, creating a vibrant, attractive and modern facility.

Our vision
To create a next-generation, integrated community place that is recognised as a centre of excellence for literacy, learning, innovation and discovery. A place where the community can meet, connect, share or just relax.
Benefits of our new facility

The existing West Lakes Library and Community Centre buildings have serviced the community well for more than 20 years, however our new integrated hub offers many long-term benefits for the community, such as:

  • Co-locating library and community centre services under one roof.
  • Offering greater convenience for the community.
  • Flexible modern facilities featuring state-of-the-art technology and adaptable spaces.
  • Purpose designed to meet disability access needs.
Concept Development

We were interested in designing spaces that meet community need whether it be community programs, library collections, digital needs, indoor and outdoor spaces. We are interested in designing to meet the needs of diverse groups in our community, big and small groups, and for use at different times of the day and night.

We invited our community to IMAGINE our new community place.

Imagine a place where you can...

  • Learn a new skill
  • Catch up with friend
  • Borrow a book
  • Work on your new business idea
  • Relax in a tranquil space
Early sharing of ideas

Our community helped us develop the design and function of the new Community Hub in several ways including a survey, workshops, and community day.
