The final consultation outcomes report was presented to the Asset Management Committee on Tuesday 19 April 2022.
The following motion was endorsed by Council on Tuesday 26 April 2022:
4.22 PROPOSED COMMUNITY GARDEN ‐ ATHOL PARK ‐ CONSULTATION OUTCOMES
Motion:
- That the report be received and noted.
- That a Community Garden be established on Fawk Reserve, Athol Park.
- That Option is A (on the Alma Street alignment of Fawk Reserve) is considered the preferred location for the Community Garden
We will now work with the community to establish the community garden in Location A (refer map below) and will be in touch shortly with everyone that indicated that they would like to be involved with the garden.
Project Background
Council has received several requests to establish a community garden in Athol Park to be located on Fawk Reserve.
Pending the outcome of this consultation process, the basic requirements to establish a new Community Garden will be constructed:
- Fencing
- Shed
- Pergola
- Storage/Compost Bays
- Materials for Garden Beds
- Irrigation and Taps
The garden will be managed by an Incorporated Association in line with the existing model for Community Gardens across the City. A license will be issued to the association, over the land to be occupied by the garden which will be managed by a committee made up of local community members.
COMMUNITY CONSULTATION
There are two consultation steps required before the community garden can be implemented.
- Consultation and support for the establishment of the community garden itself in Athol Park on Fawk Reserve
- The Community Land Management Plan (CLMP) for Fawk Reserve is required to be amended to allow for the operation and construction of a community garden.
As part of this process we will be on site to discuss any ideas, comments or concerns with the local community as detailed below:
Where: Fawk Reserve - Adele Street Athol Park
Date: Saturday March 12, 2022
Time: 10:00am – 11:00 am
We are consulting on the CLMP in conjunction with the community garden, you can also provide your feedback for the CLMP here.
Following and pending the outcome of this consultation period, the result will be communicated back to the community and if the proposal is supported, the development of the garden will commence soon after.
