Wilford Reserve Playground

Final Concept Plan

Final playground concept plan with key features highlighted on plan

You might be interested to learn how this renewal will support other, important Council initiatives:

  • Tree Canopy Improvement Strategy 2021 – 2045

The three, additional tree plantings in the design will help to achieve increased tree canopy coverage. Positioning trees on the western side of the playground will maximise the shade gains in the hottest times of the day.

  • A Circular Economy

We will be salvaging parts of the redundant play equipment to be used elsewhere, existing mulch of suitable condition will be reused, and excavated soil will be turned into small mounds in the garden bed.

  • Biodiversity Action Plan 2017-2030

It’s great to plant trees, but what about the plants!? This design incorporates the ‘Halo Plantings’ biodiversity typology of incorporating rocks for habitat and understorey planting around the base of a tree.

  • Disability Action and Inclusive Plan (DAIP)

The new path in this design bridges the accessibility gap between the existing, paved path and the playground. Rubber softfall will be installed to allow access to a hand operated swing - once on the swing, the user can swing using their arms to generate movement.
