This project began following a budget bid from local Ward Councillor Kenzie Van Den Nieuwelaar, following feedback from residents about pedestrian and traffic safety concerns.

The businesses along Mitton Avenue are popular with locals and attract visitors. We want to ensure the street supports everyone who lives, works and spends time here.

What are we looking at?

We’re collecting pedestrian and traffic data and seeking community feedback to help shape the vision for Mitton Avenue.

Your input will help guide future improvements and funding priorities for:

  • Safety, access and comfort for people walking, riding and using mobility aids
  • Safety and access for people driving cars, buses and trucks
  • Streetscape design, landscaping, outdoor dining, bicycle and car parking
  • Improved climate resilience
  • Night-time safety and lighting
What might change

Some early ideas being explored include:

  • A raised intersection at Mitton Avenue and Belfast Street to calm traffic and improve walkability
  • Pedestrian crossings near Belfast and Margaret Streets
  • Wider footpaths and improvements to crossing ramps
  • Increased tree canopy, biodiversity and permeable surfaces
  • Enhanced public spaces with art, seating and landscaping
  • Adjustments to car parking and new bicycle parking

These ideas will be explored further once we hear from you!
