Trial of Partial Road Closure

5 November 2026

We consulted residents of Elizabeth Street and surrounding streets in June/July 2026 about three options for improving traffic safety:

Option 1 - Parking controls
Option 2 - Half-road closure at Nicholls Terrace
Option 3 - Retain the existing conditions

Since that time, we have been reviewing the feedback and working through the next steps.

What has been decided - proposed trial of a half-road closure

After reviewing community feedback, traffic data and the concerns raised during consultation, we propose a six-month trial of a partial one-way road closure at the intersection of Nicholls Terrace and Elizabeth Street. This arrangement is consistent with Option 2 presented during consultation.

Traffic data will be collected and monitored throughout the trial. At the end of the six-month period, we will seek community feedback on the effectiveness of the change to inform a longer-term plan. This may involve removing the treatment, retaining it for a longer period, modifying it or formalising it as a permanent arrangement. Road

Resurfacing (Nicholls Street, Elizabeth Street & Sweeney Terrace)

As part of the overall works in Woodville West, we are also programming to resurface all three streets, as the roadway has past it’s useful life.

We will contact residents again in the new year with further information about the proposed commencement date and how the 6-month trial will operate.
