Background

Our annual Whole Street Planting Program ensures future, tree-lined streetscapes that are shaded, cool, appealing, and create a consistent, attractive avenue of trees of a similar size, shape and look. We prioritise streets that have little to no trees or canopy cover, where existing trees are unsuitable, dead, or dying and must be removed, and/or because there are gaps in your street's verge street that can accommodate a tree.

Consultation Outcomes

We consulted with residents and property owners of the streets selected for the 2024 program in September and early October on their preferred tree species to be planted in the street. The results of consultation were reported to the Council in late November, and the final tree species to be planted in each street was approved. You can view the final planting plans in the 'Whole Street Planting Map 2024' and the final species selection for your street in the 'Streets and Species for Planting' drop down box, below.

Under our Tree and Vegetation Policy we don’t allow an option for ‘No Tree’. During consultation, residents were able to tell us if they had a unique circumstance, personal condition, or special request for us to consider. If this met our policy conditions and/or we could accommodate your request, we would have been in touch with you directly in January & February 2024.

If your property verge doesn't look like it will receive a street tree, this is likely because we have assessed it as unsuitable due to location of underground services or available space.

Keep an eye out for a planting notification flyer in your letterbox from 12-16 February about what to expect, or you can view an online version in the Document Library on this page.

Streets and Tree Species for Planting

Following consultation on two tree species options for most streets, except where there was already a dominant species in the street, the tree species preferred by majority of the street's residents who participated the consultation has been approved for planting. Where no responses were provided or there was no majority preference, staff selected the most suitable tree species out of the options for that street. Click on the drop-down box for your street to see what species is being planted in your street this April - June 2024. For more information on that tree species, you can click on the species link to see example tree species growing and care information etc.
