Project Overview

We are excited to be progressing the design for a new playground at Woodville Oval.

Earlier this year, we asked the community to share their views on a proposed new playground and ideas about what they would like to see in a new playground. Thank you to everyone who participated and provided feedback.

Your input helped shape a draft concept design, which was presented to the Council in February and supported to move forward. We are now inviting the community to review the proposed playground concept and provide feedback before the design is finalised.

What we heard from the community

During the first round of consultation, the community told us they would like a playground that:

  • Provides fun and challenging play opportunities
  • Includes equipment for a range of ages and abilities
  • Supports inclusive and accessible play
  • Creates spaces for families and the community to gather
  • Fits well within the Woodville Oval environment

Your feedback has informed the proposed design.

Concept Design

The proposed playground

The concept design reflects the ideas shared by the community and includes a variety of play opportunities and spaces for families to enjoy.

The proposed playground will include:

  • Swings
  • Nature -based play elements
  • Slides
  • Inclusive equipment
  • Fencing
  • Low retaining wall (oval facing)

Previous Consultation

We have received a request from the Woodville West Torrens Football Club (WWTFC) for a new playground at Woodville Oval.

As part of our 2026/27 budget process, we are asking the community what you think about this idea and what you’d like to see included.

We’ve reviewed possible locations around the oval and, in consultation with the Football Club, identified the south-west corner of the oval as the preferred location. You can view the location plan below.

This area was chosen because of:

  • its closeness to the family-friendly area on game days
  • the location of existing trees
  • the site levels (how flat or sloped the ground is)
  • good access for the wider community.

Why we are asking for your feedback

While the proposal originated from requests by the Woodville West Torrens Football Club, any new playground would be a public facility for the whole community.

We’d like to understand how the community currently uses the oval and whether there are opportunities to improve access outside club training and game times, as well as to find out community expectations of access to a playground whilst games are on.

We’d like to understand:

  • whether you support a new playground at Woodville Oval
  • what children would like to see in the playground
  • what features would be most enjoyable and useful for everyone who uses this space.

Your feedback will help us decide whether to proceed and, if we do, what to include in the concept design.

Where is the playground being proposed?

The proposed location is indicative and may take up some or all of the space, dependent on the final design outcomes.

Consultation Outcomes

Community consultation was undertaken over a 21-day period from 19 November to 12 December 2025 to gauge community sentiment on the proposed playground.

Overall community support for the proposed playground was very strong, with 94.64% of respondents indicating they were supportive or very supportive of the project, and the majority (90.18%) expressing strong support. Only a small proportion of respondents were neutral or opposed.

A full engagement summary is available in the document library.
