What's this project about?

We are seeking feedback from local residents and the school community on traffic issues around Whitefriars Catholic School during peak times.

We know that school drop-off and pick-up can be a stressful and frustrating experience at times. We would like to better understand the challenges parents and residents face during these peak times, what currently works and what does not, as well as potential improvements and initiatives that could improve pedestrian safety, traffic conditions and create clearer property access for local residents.

Share your experiences of school pick-up and drop-off times around Whitefriars School – whether you're a parent, caregiver, student, resident, or community member - to help shape improvements and create a safer shared environment for everyone.

How did this come about?

Community members and a local community group have raised concerns about traffic safety around Whitefriars Catholic School in Woodville Park during school drop-off and pick-up times.

In response, local Elected Members submitted a budget proposal through the Annual Business Plan budget process and it was approved to undertake investigations with the community.

We spoke to our Community Safety team who shared these facts about parking around Beaufort Street and Ranelagh Street.

A good reminder

Read our "Parking Around Schools" flyer in the Document Library to learn more about pedestrian and traffic safety.
  • Parking across a driveway

Vehicles parking across driveways causes an inconvenience for nearby residents, particularly when they wish to enter or leave their property and cannot do so because a vehicle is parked across it. Vehicles are not to park in a way that restricts any part of a driveway.

  • Double Parking

Drivers must not stop next to a vehicle already stopped or parked at the kerb at any time. This practice is illegal and creates dangerous situations for traffic flow and for pedestrians crossing a road.

  • No Stopping

Both No Stopping Signs and Yellow Lines mean the same thing. Drivers must not stop on a length of road to which this restriction applies, even if you are stopping for a short period to pick up or drop off a child. Stopping causes a traffic hazard as well as congestion. You cannot stop near a school crossing, so always follow the signs and yellow lines.
