Council has endorsed Dry Zones at major waterfront reserves at West Lakes

18 November 2024

Council met on Monday night, the 11th of November 2024 to discuss the proposal for the implementation of dry zones at major reserves in West Lakes, including the feedback from our community.

Following Council discussion (including some significant debate), Council resolved to move forward with the application for Dry Zones.

The next step in the process is that the Council will now prepare an application to Consumer and Business Services to implement continuous (24/7) dry zones at the major waterfront reserves around West Lakes: Aquatic Reserve, Dotterel Reserve, Freshwater Lake, Inlet Reserve, Mariners Reserve, Neighbourhood Reserve, Oarsman Reserve, Settlers Reserve, Tiranna Reserve, and Trust Reserve.

The application process can take up to 4-6 months for Consumer and Business Services to review the relevant documentation and community feedback.

In the meantime, we encourage our residents and visitors to continue to use our reserves respectfully and mindfully of others.

We will continue to keep you informed on the outcomes of the application process with Consumer and Business Services.

For more information please refer to the report to Council and results of the community feedback here: Council Agenda Item 6.102, together with the Council Minutes (page 28).
