About Street Tree Planting

Our annual street planting program aims to ensure a tree-lined, covered and cool streetscape that, once mature, will create a consistent, attractive avenue of trees of a similar size, shape and look. We will be planting street trees in approximately 77 streets across our city between 1 April to 30 June 2026, with street planting preparation starting from March 2026.

Why is my street invited to vote?

In most cases, streets are not invited to vote on the species for planting because we will continue to plant the existing or most successful tree type that is already established and performing well within the street.

Your street a street has little to no trees or we intend to remove most of the existing trees and replace them with a new (different) tree species due to poor health, performance or suitability. As the street is receiving such a large volume of new trees, we invite the street to vote on one of two tree options that could be planted. This allows residents to have a say over the new tree that will flourish in the street in the years to come, and which will continue to be planted in the street in future.

Our qualified staff select the two most appropriate tree species for each street invited to vote. The species options provided to your street are based on your street environment, such as (but not limited to) growing conditions, verge width, nearby infrastructure, and biodiversity.

All residents and property owners for the street are eligible to vote on the tree species options for planting in the street, even if you're property verge is not going to receive a tree.

How to vote

Follow steps 1 to 3 below to vote on your preferred tree option for planting in your street by 9 November 2025.

If you already know your tree preference for your street, scroll down to
"Step 3: S
ubmit your vote" and click to drop down the voting form.

🏠 STEP 1: Find your street & species

  • Check the table below to find your street.
  • Note down the two tree species options available for you to vote on for planting in the street.
  • Move on to Step 2 to review the tree details for each of the options provided.

Can’t find your street?

Check for streets that may adjoin or run adjacent/parallel to your property (eg side-streets or rear-streets) as we may be planting on streets along the side or back of your property.

The streets listed in this table will have a different tree species planted on each side of the street, because a smaller tree type has to be planted under the powerline (SAPN) side of the street. The streets in this table can vote on their preferred tree species for each side of the street.

🌳 STEP 2: View species

Find your street's two tree options, below, and follow the link to access more information and images of the tree at different stages of maturity and in different growing conditions.

The tree species are sorted alphabetically from A to Z.

Note: We refer to the Botanic Gardens of South Australia Plant Selector and Fleming's websites (October 2025) to provide general species information and so you can view example tree imagery. Images are for illustrative purposes only and may not accurately represent what the tree species will look like in your street as it grows or at its mature age. This is because trees grow differently (including its eventual size) dependent on the soil and growing conditions in your specific street environment. If you would like any clarity around the likely size of a tree species in your particular street, please contact us.

What next?

In late-January/early-February 2026, residents and property owners will be notified about the upcoming street tree planting.

Preparation for planting and underground service location will begin in March 202. Tree planting preparation includes tree and stump removal, digging spaces for new trees, and marking the kerb with tree planting locations. Our contactors will be start planting trees in streets from 1 April through to (approx) end-June to take advantage of cooler, wetter weather.

Have something to tell us?

You will be invited to share property information or planting requests in February 2026

If you have concerns, requests or comments about your property as it relates to the proposed tree planting, you will have the opportunity to share feedback with us after you receive the advanced notice mentioned above.

All properties will receive a 'Growing Green' street tree planting flyer direct to the letterbox or property postal address no later than early February 2026. At this time, you will have approximately 3-4 weeks to share anything important with us. This might include any details about your property we should be aware of, a request about planting location in the verge, or extenuating personal or property circumstances we may need to be aware of. Staff will review and consider the feedback by the beginning of March 2026. Planting plans will then be finalised and site preparation will begin.

Feedback can be submitted to us using the contact details on this page at any time, but instructions will be provided in the notification flyer you will receive in late-Jan/early Feb 2026, closer to the time of planting.

You cannot opt out of tree planting. Unsupported requests for 'No Tree' are not considered, and leaf fall, debris, tree mess or concerns about private property damage are not reasons we would agree to not to plant a tree in the verge.

You can find out more information on the Street Planting Program webpage or by reviewing our Tree Policy.
