Acer negundo 'Sensation'
These trees can be viewed in Market Corner, Fulham Gardens and Washington Crescent, Findon
Our annual street planting program aims to ensure a tree-lined, covered and cool streetscape that, once mature, will create a consistent, attractive avenue of trees of a similar size, shape and look. We will be planting street trees in approximately 77 streets across our city between 1 April to 30 June 2026, with street planting preparation starting from March 2026.
In most cases, streets are not invited to vote on the species for planting because we will continue to plant the existing or most successful tree type that is already established and performing well within the street.
Your street a street has little to no trees or we intend to remove most of the existing trees and replace them with a new (different) tree species due to poor health, performance or suitability. As the street is receiving such a large volume of new trees, we invite the street to vote on one of two tree options that could be planted. This allows residents to have a say over the new tree that will flourish in the street in the years to come, and which will continue to be planted in the street in future.
Our qualified staff select the two most appropriate tree species for each street invited to vote. The species options provided to your street are based on your street environment, such as (but not limited to) growing conditions, verge width, nearby infrastructure, and biodiversity.
All residents and property owners for the street are eligible to vote on the tree species options for planting in the street, even if you're property verge is not going to receive a tree.
Follow steps 1 to 3 below to vote on your preferred tree option for planting in your street by 9 November 2025.
If you already know your tree preference for your street, scroll down to
"Step 3: Submit your vote" and click to drop down the voting form.
Can’t find your street?
Check for streets that may adjoin or run adjacent/parallel to your property (eg side-streets or rear-streets) as we may be planting on streets along the side or back of your property.
The streets listed in this table will have the same tree species planted on both sides of the street.
Street Name (A to Z) | Suburb | Species Option 1 | Species Option 2 |
---|---|---|---|
Florence Street | Hendon | Lagerstroemia indica | Prunus
cerasifera 'Oakville Crimson Spire' |
Grace Street | Albert Park | Pyrus Betulaefolia 'Southworth Dancer' | Pistacia chinensis |
Jury Street | Royal Park | Pyrus Betulaefolia 'Southworth Dancer' | Lagerstroemia indica |
Link Street | Royal Park | Lagerstroemia indica | Geijera parviflora |
Philips Crescent | Hendon | Corymbia citriodora 'Scentuous' | Eucalyptus leucoxylon 'Euky Dwarf' |
Scan Street | Royal Park | Corymbia
citriodora 'Scentuous' | Pistacia chinensis |
Stacy Street | Hendon | Lagerstroemia indica | Prunus

The streets listed in this table will have a different tree species planted on each side of the street, because a smaller tree type has to be planted under the powerline (SAPN) side of the street. The streets in this table can vote on their preferred tree species for each side of the street.
Street Name (A to Z) | Suburb | SAPN Side: Species Option 1 | SAPN Side: Species Option 2 | Non-SAPN Side: Species Option 1 | Non-SAPN side: Species Option 2 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Cedar Avenue | Royal Park | Pistacia chinensis | ‘Euky Dwarf’ | Acer negundo 'Sensation' | Jacaranda mimosifolia |
Risley Avenue | Royal Park | Pistacia chinensis | Cupaniopsis anacardiodes | Celtis australis | Jacaranda mimosifolia |
Find your street's two tree options, below, and follow the link to access more information and images of the tree at different stages of maturity and in different growing conditions.
The tree species are sorted alphabetically from A to Z.
Note: We refer to the Botanic Gardens of South Australia Plant Selector and Fleming's websites (October 2025) to provide general species information and so you can view example tree imagery. Images are for illustrative purposes only and may not accurately represent what the tree species will look like in your street as it grows or at its mature age. This is because trees grow differently (including its eventual size) dependent on the soil and growing conditions in your specific street environment. If you would like any clarity around the likely size of a tree species in your particular street, please contact us.

In late-January/early-February 2026, residents and property owners will be notified about the upcoming street tree planting.
Preparation for planting and underground service location will begin in March 202. Tree planting preparation includes tree and stump removal, digging spaces for new trees, and marking the kerb with tree planting locations. Our contactors will be start planting trees in streets from 1 April through to (approx) end-June to take advantage of cooler, wetter weather.
If you have concerns, requests or comments about your property as it relates to the proposed tree planting, you will have the opportunity to share feedback with us after you receive the advanced notice mentioned above.
All properties will receive a 'Growing Green' street tree planting flyer direct to the letterbox or property postal address no later than early February 2026. At this time, you will have approximately 3-4 weeks to share anything important with us. This might include any details about your property we should be aware of, a request about planting location in the verge, or extenuating personal or property circumstances we may need to be aware of. Staff will review and consider the feedback by the beginning of March 2026. Planting plans will then be finalised and site preparation will begin.
Feedback can be submitted to us using the contact details on this page at any time, but instructions will be provided in the notification flyer you will receive in late-Jan/early Feb 2026, closer to the time of planting.
You cannot opt out of tree planting. Unsupported requests for 'No Tree' are not considered, and leaf fall, debris, tree mess or concerns about private property damage are not reasons we would agree to not to plant a tree in the verge.
You can find out more information on the Street Planting Program webpage or by reviewing our Tree Policy.
Our Tree Canopy Improvement Strategy provides a framework to reach a City-wide canopy target of 25% by 2045.
Our Street Tree Planting program will be integral to helping us to realise our goal of 25% tree canopy over the next 20 years.
Many streets in our City already have a dominant tree species. A dominant tree species is a particular tree type already in the street which has successfully established and is growing well. In this case, any new trees that are planted in that street will be that same dominant species. This creates an avenue of trees that are a similar size, colour and shape throughout the year.
Selected streets in the planting program are invited to vote on 1 of 2 species options to be planted in the street. These streets have few to no trees or we are removing and replacing the existing trees, and we want the residents and owners in these streets to have input over what will be the new dominant tree species for these streets.
We encourage all residents and property owners in a street to participate in the tree species voting for your street, regardless of whether your property will be affected or not.
This is because the street's majority-preferred tree type will be selected for planting. This tree type will also be planted in the street for the foreseeable future, including when we receive new planting requests.
We want you to be a part of determining the future dominant tree species for your street and having input into how your streetscape looks.
We're sorry to hear this. Our qualified staff consider many factors when determining the best trees species for each street environment. Just some of the things we consider include:
As you can see, there are many things to be considered and we don't make the species decisions lightly.
You can view the draft planting plans proposed for your street by visiting the Street Tree Planting page on our City of Charles Sturt website and searching your address in the Tree Canopy Improvement Street Planting Map.
We will also be in touch with all streets that are receiving trees between 1 April and 30 June 2026 in advance of tree planting, to give notice, share important details and receive any feedback that should be considered before we start planting.
When you get this notification, you can review your street on the Tree Canopy Improvement Planting Map (if you haven't done so already) to see if your property is getting a tree and what species will be planted.
Keep an eye out for a tree planting "Growing Green" flyer in your letterbox early in the new year (2026).
Residents, property owners and rate payers have the opportunity to make a special request, share feedback about the intended planting location in the street's verge, or share extenuating or special personal circumstances that may need to be considered by staff following receipt of the tree notification flyer to your letterbox.
You can share your feedback via email to council@charlessturt.sa.gov.au or contact 8408 1111. Feedback will be assessed by a qualified staff member and, if we can accommodate your request, we will get in touch with you directly.
All feedback will be assessed in accordance with our Tree and Vegetation Policy. Under this Policy, we don't allow an option for 'No Tree'.
Yes, you can! If you feel like you have space for an additional tree in your verge or want a new tree, or if your street is not part of the planting program but you would really like a tree, you can submit a request for tree planting.
Requests for new/additional trees can be made via our Customer Portal. Requests are assessed on an individual basis depending on the space in the verge. If you're eligible for a new or additional tree, it's likely you will receive the dominant tree species in the rest of the street. Alternatively, you may be offered a choice of 2 or more species options if there is no dominant species.
