Share your thoughts on draft Masterplan

10 June 2026

We are working with the community to create a masterplan for Stroud Street, one that reflects local priorities and helps create a place people want to visit, stay and connect. The masterplan builds on what we heard from the community in late 2025, when residents, businesses and visitors shared key issues and opportunities for the street.

Cheltenham Community Cente

The Cheltenham Community Centre plays an important role in supporting local activities, services and connections.

We are planning for its future redevelopment to ensure it continues to meet the needs of the local community and supports a thriving neighbourhood.

The redevelopment aims to:

  • Provide modern, flexible and inclusive community spaces
  • Support health, wellbeing and lifelong learning
  • Strengthen local identity and belonging
  • Create a welcoming hub for people of all ages and backgrounds
  • Enhance spaces for community programs, gatherings and events

The future of Stroud Street and the Cheltenham Community Centre are closely linked.

Planning them together helps to:

  • Improve connections between the street, community facilities and surrounding areas
  • Support local activity, visitation and business
  • Create safer, more welcoming public spaces and walking routes
  • Support spaces for community programs, gatherings and events
  • Ensure investment reflects what the community values most Your feedback will help shape how Stroud Street supports and complements this important community asset

What we heard and how we are responding

Late last year, residents, businesses and visitors shared what they value about Stroud Street, as well as what could be improved.

We heard that people want Stroud Street to feel greener, safer and more welcoming, with better walking connections, more shade, improved accessibility, support for local businesses, and spaces that reflect Cheltenham’s local character.

Based on this feedback, we have developed early concept ideas that explore:

  • More trees, planting and shade
  • Safer and more comfortable movement for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers
  • Wider footpaths and improved accessibility
  • Better connections to the Cheltenham Community Centre, train line and local businesses
  • Opportunities for gathering, events and community life
  • Materials, artwork and planting that reflect local history and character
