What is happening?

During recent discussions with Findon residents, pedestrian safety and accessibility were identified as key concerns, particularly when crossing near the bend at Rondo Avenue and Winona Street.

Feedback highlighted the need for a clearer and safer crossing point that prioritises people walking.

In response, we are proposing to install a Raised Pedestrian Crossing (Wombat Crossing) at the bend of Rondo Avenue and Winona Street.

The proposed crossing would:

  • Help reduce vehicle speeds
  • Improve visibility between drivers and pedestrians
  • Provide a safer and more reliable connection for people walking and cycling to Findon Shopping Centre and Ray Street Reserve

What is a Raised Pedestrian Crossing (Wombat Crossing)?

A raised pedestrian crossing, also known as a wombat crossing, is a pedestrian crossing that is built up to the same level as the footpath.

It acts like a speed hump, so vehicles must slow down when approaching and driving over it.

Ray Street Reserve Amenity Upgrades happening soon!

With more people now living nearby, we will be upgrading and installing new amenities in Ray Street Reserve. These improvements will help ensure the open space continues to meet the growing needs of the local community.

We are preparing to install the following improvements at the southern end of the reserve –

  • New shelter and paving
  • New seating
  • New BBQ
  • Landscaping and irrigation around the new shelter
  • New lighting within the shelter
    • The new lighting will be installed inside the shelter to improve visibility and safety for people using the space.
    • The lights will be low-glare and will only illuminate the area directly underneath the shelter. This helps to ensure the lighting does not spill into surrounding areas.
    • The lighting will operate from dusk until dawn. The timing can also be adjusted to make sure the lights are used efficiently and only when needed.
A new drinking fountain will be installed at the northern end of the reserve, as this location aligns with existing underground infrastructure

Construction timing

Works are scheduled to commence in late-April and expected to be complete by end of June 2026.
