We are reaching out to seek your feedback on the ongoing traffic queuing issue at the intersection of Park Street South and Port Road, particularly during the morning peak when vehicles are turning into the First Things First coffee drive through.
In May 2022, we met with the café and implemented time-based parking restrictions on Park Street South to allow drivers to pass queued vehicles. Despite this, queuing issues have continued, causing safety concerns for nearby businesses as well as drivers moving through the street.
We are now considering additional measures to address the problem and would like your input on the following options:
Option 1: Left-in, Left-out Access (Install a short median)
Install a short central median (approx. 50m up to house number 4) to prevent right turns into the café’s driveway, creating a left-in, left-out access. Traffic would be directed to the roundabout. This may move the queuing to one side of the street and require those in the queue to give way to residents exiting driveways. However, there is a risk of illegal U-turns at the median’s end.
Option 2: Left-In, Left-Out Access – (Install a longer central median)
Install a longer central median between Port Road and Norman Street to prevent right turns into the driveway, creating a left-in, left-out access. Traffic would be directed to the roundabout, shifting any queuing to one side of the street. Residents exiting driveways would still need to be given way to by queued vehicles.
Option 3: Conditions Remain Unchanged (No changes)
We also recognise that the queuing issue occurs mainly during peak periods, and for most of the day, the intersection functions well. Therefore, we are also seeking feedback on whether residents prefer to leave conditions unchanged.
We value your input on these options and encourage you to share your feedback with us.We want to hear from you
