Permanent Dry Zones now in place

12 January 2026

Permanent Dry Zones have now been established across several key public spaces surrounding the Ovingham Underpass / Karrarendi Yerta Kadla area, following strong community support and rising concerns about alcohol‑related antisocial behaviour.

The State Government has approved the expanded permanent Dry Zones in the following locations:

  • Napier Reserve (Ovingham & Renown Park, and surrounds)
  • Parfitt Square (Bowden)
  • Albert Turnbull Reserve (Ovingham)
  • Chief Street Pocket Park (Brompton

These locations were identified after an increase in the number of community reports earlier this year regarding disruptive behaviour in the area. The City of Charles Sturt undertook community consultation to understand local views on establishing Dry Zones. With approximately 88% of survey participants supporting the proposal, these sites have now been confirmed as Permanent Dry Zones.

These Dry Zones are only one part of the City of Charles Sturt’s broader approach, alongside increased cleaning, monitoring, community engagement and working closely with SAPOL, the City of Prospect and support services.

Dry Zones will roll out in early 2026.
