Project Update: Manuel Street and Sheppard Street

7 October 2026

In April 2026, we consulted with the local community on three potential options to improve the look and feel at the intersection of Manuel Street and Sheppard Street in Hendon. Thank you to everyone who shared feedback with us.

We received a total of 26 submissions from community members. The feedback showed support for initiatives that enhance urban greening and improve pedestrian accessibility, although no single option received clear community support for traffic management intersection changes.

The project team has carefully reviewed all feedback received during the consultation period and considered it alongside technical engineering assessments including traffic volumes, pedestrian activity and current road conditions. We have found that traffic management changes to the intersection at Manuel Street and Sheppard Street are not warranted at this time.

Community feedback showed that the priorities are more greenery and better safety for pedestrians. Additional street trees have recently been planted in the Hendon area recently, delivering an increase in local greening and urban tree canopy, and new kerb ramp crossings at the Manuel Street and Sheppard Street intersection will be constructed over the coming months to improve pedestrian safety.

No further changes are proposed at the intersection of Manuel Street and Sheppard Street, however the feedback received through this consultation will continue to inform Council's future planning for the Hendon area.

We appreciate the local community's participation in this consultation process and thank everyone who took the time to provide feedback.
