Pocket Park Construction Update

23 April 2025

With the conclusion of SA Water works in March, the Department for Infrastructure and Transport will be starting onsite works for the new Chief Street and Drayton Street pocket parks soon.

These works will take approximately 6 weeks and include the removal of asphalt, concrete, and rubble surfacing, in preparation for clean soil to be reinstated before landscape works can start.

After the site clean-up has been completed, landscape construction contractors (Bluscape) will start. City of Charles Sturt have recently worked with Bluscape to complete park improvements and landscaping at Woodlake Reserve on Frederick Street, Woodlake Avenue and Maramba Avenue, West Lakes.

We estimate the construction and landscaping of the new pocket parks will be complete by October 2025, noting high rainfall may cause a delay. We will be in touch with the local area and everyone who shared feedback about the pocket park designs to share the draft Community Land Management Plans (CLMP) for the new community spaces. CLMPs set out how the spaces can be used and will be managed and also propose or identify the potential name/s of the spaces.

Update on the Chief Street Pocket Park concept design

Since the final landscaping plans were approved, we have been able to include fitness equipment in the Chief Street Pocket Park, which was requested during the design consultation process but was listed as a future improvement once the park was completed. Fitness equipment will now be included during the landscape construction of the park.
