Construction delays and new estimated completion date

22 September 2025

Our last news update shared that the construction of the Chief Street and Drayton Street pocket parks by City of Charles Sturt was expected to start mid-2025, following SA Water works and removal of old site materials by Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT).

Updated Contruction Start

Delays to both the SA Water and DIT works that were outside of our control meant that we have only recently received site handover so that construction of the parks by Council's contractor, Bluscape, can start. We no longer expect any further external delays with construction to start this month.

Updated Construction Completion

Construction and landscaping of the new pocket parks will be complete by June 2026, although we anticipate completion could be as early as March or April 2026, good weather permitting.

As we have mentioned previously, we will be in touch closer to project completion to discuss with community how the new spaces will be established and managed.

Please contact Council on 8408 1111 or council@charlessturt.sa.gov.au if you have any queries throughout project construction.

We thank you for your ongoing patience while we deliver these exciting new open space developments for Bowden and Brompton.
