New Path Request

We have received a request for a new path and kerb ramps along the southern portion of Kirra Avenue between Noosa Place and Nambour Crescent, from a local resident living with a vision impairment and uses a guide dog, to help them to get around. A path on Kirra Avenue would assist them to walk safely to local bus stops and Westfield, West Lakes.

Currently, there are no paths on Kirra Avenue, and pedestrians often walk on the road or along verges. For guide dog users, the dogs are trained not to walk on roads and walking on verges can also be difficult due to verge plantings, parked vehicles and uneven surfaces.

Our new path construction program makes it safer for the community to walk through local streets, while also creating important links to shops, facilities, and public transport. Paths benefit all residents whether they are walking, pushing a pram, using a mobility device, cycling or scooting making it easier for all of our community to get around.

We are seeking your feedback

We have developed two concept plans and are seeking your feedback about the designs. Your feedback will assist Council in making a decision on the location of the path.

What options are being considered?

We are exploring the installation of a 1.5-metre-wide path and several new kerb ramp installations within the verge area of Kirra Avenue. There are two options being considered:

• Option 1, Eastern side - This option is located on the housing side of Kirra Avenue and the path would run between Noosa Place and Nambour Crescent.
• Option 2, Western side - This option is located on the Mooloola Reserve side of Kirra Avenue between Noosa Place and Nambour Crescent.

A path on the eastern side of Kirra Avenue is the preferred side for the resident as it minimises the number of road crossings the resident needs to make on Kirra Avenue to access local bus stops and Westfield, West Lakes.
