Project Proposal

We’ve heard from the community about the need for more dog-friendly spaces.

In response, we’re exploring the creation of a small, fenced dog park at the northern end of Gordon Reserve. The proposed space would be approximately 650m², with secure fencing and a gate to provide a safe, off-leash area for dogs while keeping them separate from other park users. A location plan can be viewed here.

A new approach: Single-Use Dog Park

As this will be quite a small space for a dog park, we are looking at considering a ‘single use’ space, where individuals can use the park to exercise their dogs alone (or with others as invited) for a period of time before leaving so the next person can enter. This has many potential benefits in being more accessible for a wider variety of people and dogs (e.g. those scared of other dogs, people unsteady on their feet, etc.), as traditional dog parks are really only suitable for highly social dogs.

Why we’re asking for your feedback

We’d like to know whether you support this idea and to hear any other suggestions that could help shape the design of a dog park, if the project goes ahead.

Before we design a concept, we’d love to hear from you.

What happens next?

  • If there’s little community support, the project may not proceed.
  • If there is support, we’ll develop a draft concept design and share it with you for further feedback in early 2026.
  • Everyone who provides feedback will be kept updated of the outcomes.
