A fenced dog space designed for one dog or one household’s dogs at a time.

Owners may use it alone or invite other dogs they know. It suits dogs and owners who prefer calm, controlled environments compared to busy shared dog parks.

A single use space caters for social dogs, but also allows shy or timid dogs to explore, and suits older dogs, dogs with hearing or vision impairments, arthritis, puppies, etc.

They also cater for dog owners who may not like other dogs approaching them, who are unsteady on their feet or anyone who doesn’t feel safe in traditional dog parks.

Gordon Reserve was selected because:

• It is centrally located within a high dog-ownership area.
• Most users are expected to live locally and walk, reducing parking and traffic impacts.
• The reserve has suitable space to trial an enclosed area without affecting other uses.
• Community feedback has highlighted a need for safer, quieter dog spaces.
• Similar parks occur in City of Port Adelaide Enfield and City of Salisbury.
• Traditional dog parks require a lot of space. A single use option is a good way to provide a dog friendly space in this location that is smaller than our other traditional dog parks.

No. It isn’t a private booking area for hire. However, only one user or group should use the space at a time for a period of time, and others may politely ask to join or wait their turn.

Entry should only occur if the person inside agrees.

No. It will be first-come, first-served. If others are waiting, please limit your time to 20 minutes.

1. Check if it's in use.

2. If occupied, wait outside with your dog

3. If you want to join, ask politely e.g 'Hi, would it be okay if we came in? Happy to wait if your dog needs space'.

4. Use the area respectfully and clean up after your dog.

5. Finish within 20 minutes if others are waiting.

This trial relies on courtesy. A polite reminder is encouraged:

“Hi, just checking how much longer you’ll be — we’re waiting for a turn.”

Signage will support time expectations, but no formal enforcement is planned.

Yes, as long as all dogs are compatible and the owner inside agrees. It’s not intended for group meet-ups, exclusive hire/ use or formal training.

This model is designed to support dogs who don’t cope well in busy dog parks. You’re not required to allow others in if your dog prefers space. However, you may still come across other dogs in the reserve generally on your way to and from the park.

The single use space will include:

• Secure fencing and double-gate entries
• Clear signage on how it works, what’s expected, and time limits
• Grass with durable surfacing near gates
• A seat, dog waste bin and possibly a water tap
• Shade from trees or a small shelter, where possible
