In late 2025, we asked the community about their experiences using Gilbert Street and what improvements they would like to see in the future. Community feedback highlighted a desire for:

• More street trees and shade
• Improved footpaths and accessibility
• Better walking and cycling connections
• Improvements to the overall streetscape

We have reviewed this feedback alongside the current condition of the road, footpaths and kerbs, and considered it as part of Council's infrastructure planning and renewal programs.

At this time, no road, footpath, kerb or tree canopy renewal works are planned for Gilbert Street in the immediate future. Asset condition assessments indicate the existing infrastructure is generally in good condition, and there are currently no programmed upgrade projects in this section of Gilbert Street that would provide an opportunity to deliver the improvements identified through the investigation.

While there are no immediate plans for works in Gilbert Street, the feedback received remains valuable and will continue to inform future planning, funding opportunities and project prioritisation should opportunities arise.
