Consultation Outcomes

20 December 2019

We recently wrote to stakeholders within and adjacent to Foord Avenue seeking feedback on the road reconstruction, street print and speed hump proposal planned for this financial year.

The local community have previously told us they wanted to see changes in the laneway to improve safety for all users. We have now consulted with stakeholders who would generally use this lane or use it to access property. Overall, 6 people responded to the survey and during the consultation period a resident requested an onsite meeting, which attracted 7 residents to attend. A meeting was also held with the parish and school.

Matters discussed:

  • Pedestrian Safety
  • Traffic Calming and Safety
  • Signs and line marking
  • Timing and access during construction
  • Stormwater

  • The final concept plan now includes:

  • Full reseal of roadway from Military Road to Marlborough Street
  • Renewal of existing kerb and gutter in locations were its required
  • Installation of two speed humps along the east-west section, to replace the single hump that already exists. The single hump no longer meets the current standards and cannot be replaced like it is
  • Improved stormwater drainage at the rear of 152 Marlborough Street
  • Printed road surface to give a visual cue to drivers to drive slowly and that this space is shared with pedestrians (note: this will be installed some months later, giving the asphalt time to cure)
  • An area in the north-south section (adjacent the church) that will not be printed, to enable a road mural to be painted by Star of the Sea school students (speed humps cannot be installed along this section as it is a strong pedestrian link, however the mural and printed road surface can help to remind drivers to travel slowly)
  • Re-installation of existing yellow line marking along the length of Foord Avenue to identify areas that cars are unable to park, with an additional yellow line around the corner adjacent 152 Marlborough Street.

  • Installation of a shared zone with a 10km/h speed limit is still subject to the approval of the Minister. This will be added at a later date should approval be granted. In the meantime, all existing signs will remain in place.

We anticipate construction to occur in mid-January 2020. If the work is required to carry past January, our contractors will endeavour to undertake work between school hours of 9am to 3pm.

Residents that have access affected by the work will receive further notification from our appointed contractor closer to the time of commencing.
