Final Concept Plan & Construction

The final concept plan has been created and the dog park has been divided into two distinct areas – A passive area ‘Sniffari Park’ and an active area.

Below are some of the key features:

  • Sniffari Park – Passive Area
  • Active Area
    • Dog Exercise/Agility Equipment
    • Playing Mounds
    • Varied Ground Surfaces
  • Double Door Entrance Gates
    • Including Bags & Bins
  • Drink Fountains
  • Shelter with Benches
  • Perimetre Fence
  • Central Fence
  • Lighting along paths
  • Planting

The concept of the Sniffari Park is a purpose-built place for ‘SCENTsational sniffers’. It allows dogs of all breeds and sizes to explore and create calm interactions but is also a different type of exercise for dogs as 15mins of smelling is similar to 30 minutes of running for a dog.

Lighting will be installed along the paths of the dog park which will turn off automatically at 9:30pm every night.There will also be new irrigation system and turf rejuvenation undertaken throughout the Semaphore Park Reserve.

The construction of the dog park will commence shortly and is anticipated to be completed by the end of June 2021, this will be subject to weather/unforeseen conditions.

The consultation results, together with a draft concept plan were presented to the Asset Management Committee on 18 November 2019 (Item 3.113) view here where draft concept plans were endorsed for further community consultation.

Consultation for Draft Concept Plans

We are now seeking your feedback on the draft concept plan which you can view here or in the Document Library. Your feedback will assist Council to finalise the concept plan and Council’s consideration of funding in its 2020/21 budget. Key features of draft concept plans are as follows:

  • A fully fenced area, approximately 2,850m2 in size, located centrally within Semaphore Park Reserve;
  • 'Snifari' Park, features will include sense play and exploration;
  • Paths, signage, shelters, seating, water fountains, lighting, bins, compostable dog bags and a range of vegetation and surface treatments (irrigated turf, sand and gravel);
  • Separate spaces for ‘easy going’ and ‘active’ dogs.
    • The easy going space includes features such as variable surface textures and scented plants, designed to calm dogs and encourage them to explore the space before entering the active space;
    • The active space includes open turf area and dog play equipment and
  • Signage to explain and educate on the usage of the park.

The remainder of the reserve will have an irrigation upgrade with turf seed planted and the existing car park will be re-surfaced with line marking.

An on-site information session will also be held at Semaphore Park Reserve, on Thursday 6 February 2020, from 5.00pm – 6.00pm, where you can provide feedback and discuss the concept plans with council staff.
