Visitor Economy and Tourism Engagement

Introduction

Tourism was once restricted to those activities where people travelled outside their usual place of residence for the purpose of a holiday and/or recreation. Tourism has now expanded to include people travelling for other reasons such as visiting friends and relatives (VFR), education, work and even medical services.

The term Visitor Economy refers to the economic contribution of tourism, therefore referring to the production of goods and services consumed by visitors such as hotels, transport, tour operators and experiences, making it a much more inclusive definition highlighting the broader impact for all stakeholders.

Our goal and objectives

As a key pillar of the Economic Development Strategy, the goal of tourism development in the City of Charles Sturt over the next three years is to grow the visitor economy by delivering the following objectives:

  • Increase knowledge and understanding of tourism in Charles Sturt.
  • Strengthen our tourism connections.
  • Increase capability of the sector and economic growth.

We want your ideas!

To better understand the needs of our tourism operators to achieve the above we want your ideas on the following:

  • How you prefer to engage with Council and other operators to share stories and opportunities?
  • What information do you want to receive?
  • Future networking/workshop topics would you like to hear about?
  • What actions would you like to see delivered by Charles Sturt to meet our Goals?

Thank you for your ideas. This invitation has now closed.

Your ideas have informed our visitor economy planning and networking for 2019.
