Community feedback, together with input from other groups including the Henley Precinct Community Reference Group and the Henley Beach Business Association, will assist the designers in refining the Concept Plan.

The final Concept Plan will be presented to Council on the 9 December 2013, and following consideration by Council will be presented to the wider community in early January. An Open Day will be held at the Square on Sunday 19 January. Stay tuned for further details.

Following community consultation in late 2011 including community workshops and an Open Day, Council has adopted a precinct approach to ensuring integration of the development of Henley including revitalisation of the Square and transport and parking improvements.

To ensure community involvement, the Henley Precinct Community Reference Group (HPCRG) was established in early 2012. This group is open to any member of the community and meets monthly to discuss opportunities and actions to improve the Henley precinct.

The HPCRG helped to develop the criteria and the brief for the Henley Square Urban Design Competition, based on previous community consultation.  Council appointed an independent expert Jury to assess design entries against these criteria.

The Henley Square Urban Design Competition was a two stage competition targeting design professionals from across Australia. Information on the competition process is available at www.charlessturt.sa.gov.au/page.aspx?u=862

     In summary:

    • In Stage 1 of the competition, the jury received 49 entries and shortlisted 3 for further development.
    • In Stage 2, the HPCRG provided comments to the jury on the expanded plans prepared by the 3 shortlisted entrants.

The jury awarded the winning entry to T.C.L and Troppo. Council has subsequently appointed T.C.L and Troppo to consult with the community to:

    • refine the winning entry
    • integrate outcomes of the Henley Transport and Parking Plan (HTPP) including street treatments, gateway entry statements, parking, taxi stands, bicycle parking and bus shelters. The HTPP was  developed in consultation with the community over the last 9 months
