What is a Zebra Crossing?
A zebra crossing is a type of pedestrian crossing used in many places around the world. Its distinguishing feature is alternating dark and light stripes on the road surface, similar to the coat of a zebra. A zebra crossing gives priority to pedestrians and bicycle riders using the footpath over vehicles and cyclists on the road.
Why not install a school (emu) crossing?
Emu crossings occur in school zones, and are only operational when “CHILDREN CROSSING” flags are displayed. A zebra crossing is being proposed in this location as it is not within a school zone. The zebra crossing will be operational at all times of the day and available to all pedestrians.
