Bartley Terrace Streetscape Project

Consultation has concluded

We want to hear your thoughts on the Concept Plan to improve Bartley Terrace!

This project is a road safety initiative that Council considers vital. Eventually this concept plan will become a master plan that will be delivered over the next 20 years, with the highest priorities designated for quicker action. The issues already identified are:

  • Drivers speeding
  • Parking availability
  • Parking obstruction of travelling vehicles
  • Blind spots
  • Cyclist safety
  • Pedestrian safety
  • Few street crossing points
  • Noise
  • Poor street lighting

For this reason a consultant has worked with the Council to develop a draft Concept Plan.

  • Unfortunately I was unable to attend the open day. Is there anywhere in the future the concept plan is available to be viewed?

Kerry asked about 4 years ago

Yes, the concept plan is available for viewing at Council’s Civic Centre until 15 May. Our consultant will be refining the concept based on consultation feedback received and there will be another opportunity to review and comment on the final plan in the coming months.

  • I love the parking as the use during soccer season makes its very busy through there. I have worries though that the bike path is between the road and the parking. There would be a significant risk to injury with a suddenly opened door or a driver pulling out. With the high use coming from the soccer pitches I would imagine a number of kids opening their doors and not seeing a cyclist coming by. The cyclist could hit that door or swerve out into traffic. Would it be possible to have the bike path next to the mixed use if only for that section?

Thank you for your question. The cycle lane and the car park are to be designed to Australian Standards in the detailed design phase. Contemporary design practice is for a safety zone (typically 400mm) to be provided between the cycle lane and car park area to provide a buffer between cyclists and car door openings. This will be considered in the detailed design phase.
