Croydon and Garnet Streetscapes

Consultation has now concluded. We will provide an update here shortly.

The Croydon Avenue and Garnet Street - Reserve and Streetscape Project is all about improving the function and appearance of Croydon Avenue, Garnet Street and Croydon Avenue Reserve, between Port Road and Torrens Road.

Preliminary community engagement in November 2016 provided useful feedback, but also revealed community confusion about the nature and intent of the project.

The project team recently undertook further consultation on ‘Ideas for Improvements’ for the study area, including a Community Open Day, which was held on 8 April 2017.

Overall support for the treatments and improvements proposed was relatively high, with the following key themes prevalent:

In Croydon Avenue and Garnet Street

• Improve pedestrian safety across Cedar Avenue and William Street, near the Reserve

• Improve pedestrian safety at Railway Crossing

• Improve pedestrian and bicycle links through

• Improve public lighting

• Reduce vehicle speeds in Euston Terrace and Day Terrace

• Verge Landscaping (differing opinions: more landscaping vs less landscaping)

• Verge maintenance (increase the service level)

• More street trees

• Install public art – on stobie poles and in verges

• Consider natural, native landscaping and rain gardens.

• Consider signage – Wayfinding (to Greenway and shops) and signs that reflect local character and
history

In Croydon Avenue Reserve

• Playground upgrade – consider ‘nature play’ equipment, exercise equipment and shade structures.

• Install more perimeter fencing

• Provide BBQ facilities

• Provide dog waste bag dispensers

• Reserve upgrades in Croydon and West Croydon should be integrated

• Enhance natural habitat for native wildlife

Following on from the Open Day the Draft Concept Plan was developed. We are now seeking feedback on this Plan!
